Health Association Nova Scotia administers an Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP) for employees of the acute care sector of the health system. Eligible employees are those individuals employed in a permanent part time, permanent full time or term positions of a year or more. While provincial funding of the program currently extends to the acute care sector only, other members of the Health Association who wish to purchase the program receive the same preferred rate.
The EFAP provider, Shepell•fgi (www.shepellfgi.com), is one of Canada's largest and most respected behavioural health service providers.
The EFAP is a voluntary, confidential, short-term counseling and advisory service that connects employees and their eligible family members to a network of dedicated professionals who are available to give assistance 24 hours a day. This network includes counsellors, social workers, psychologists, addiction and career counselors, childcare and eldercare specialists, legal and financial experts.
The EFAP provides professional assistance for a wide range of issues including:
- Alcohol and drug misuse
- Childcare issues
- Couple and marital relationships
- Crisis counseling
- Eating Disorders
- Eldercare concerns
- Family matters/parenting concerns
- Financial concerns
- Legal issues
- Stress and anxiety
- Health information
- Trauma/critical incidents
- Work-related and career issues
- Other concerns
