About Us

Group Benefits Solutions provides and supports long term disability, group life, extended health, dental benefits, optional AD&D and critical illness insurance to over 22,000 employees of Health Association member organizations and approximately 2,800 retirees. Our knowledgeable staff provide full disability program management and plan text and/or benefit contract interpretation. The service provides centralized benefit administration from a provincial database maintained by the service. Plans are cost-shared between employers and active employees.

In early 2000, Group Benefits Solutions launched a province-wide early intervention program for employees enrolled in the NSAHO Long Term Disability Plan. The program is an undertaking of the Long Term Disability Trustees who are comprised of employer and employee representatives and are responsible for the governance of the Long Term Disability Plan.The program is called EASE (Early Assistance and Support for Employees).

Group Benefits Solutions also administers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for healthcare workers employed in the acute care sector.

What's New  


MANDATORY GENERIC DRUG SUBSTITUTION

Effective June 1, 2014, the health plan is adopting a Mandatory Generic Drug Substitution approach.  Making wise choices about utilizing generic drugs when available can save you and your benefits plan money, ensuring your health plan remains sustainable for the future.  This means your plan will reimburse up to the cost of the generic drug even if a brand name medication is dispensed.  If your healthcare professional has prescribed a medication and indicated “no substitution” on your prescription, your pharmacist may contact them on your behalf in order to confirm that the generic medication can be dispensed instead. For those instances when your healthcare professional indicates there is a medically substantive need to remain on the brand name medication, please contact Medavie Blue Cross toll-free at 1-800-667-4511 for details on their exception process.  Plan members taking one or more prescription medications at June 1, 2014 when an interchangeable generic version is available received further information in the mail from Medavie Blue Cross.

 


My Good Health – WELLNESS PORTAL AND HEALTH ASSESSMENT


To: Health and/or Dental Plan Members

My Good Health is available to all Health Association Nova Scotia Health (and/or Dental) plan members, their spouses and dependents over 18 years of age.  Any plan member who has a Medavie Blue Cross policy number and ID number can access the wellness portal and health assessment.  

My Good Health is your one-stop health and wellness site available to Medavie Blue Cross cardholders. By signing up and building your personal and confidential profile you’ll have access to resources like nutrition and activity trackers, wellness articles, how-to guides and information about health screening - tailored to your needs. 

You will need your Medavie Blue Cross ID card to begin.

MEDAVIE BLUE CROSS (MBC) INTRODUCES A MOBILE APP AND ECLAIMS

Medavie Blue Cross has introduced a new mobile app that ensures you have fast and reliable access to your benefit information – anytime, anywhere.

To use the Mobile app, you need to register on the secure member site at www.bluecross.ca/MemberWeb.
 
If you wish to submit claims electronically then you will need to sign up for direct deposit.
 
Take a look at medavie.bluecross.ca/app for more details on the mobile app or call MBC direct at 1-855-811-5656 if you have any questions.
